Is 2025 Your Time For A Glow-Up?

Blog Post: A Year of Transformation and Glow-Up

Hello and welcome! I’m so excited to share my first blog post with you. I’ve thought about starting a blog for a long time, but each time, I would talk myself out of it. I’d tell myself things like, “It’s too much of a time commitment,” “I won’t stay consistent with it,” or “Does what I have to say really matter to others?” But as I reflect on it, I realize that my words do matter. I constantly try to empower my clients to believe in themselves more and give themselves credit and grace for all the amazing things they do, so it’s only right that I do the same for myself.

This blog is an opportunity to help connect with more individuals and couples who desire to transform their lives—whether it’s through addressing mental health concerns, improving sex lives, improving upon nutrition and sleep habits, or guiding others on their journey toward self-improvement. So here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone a little bit, but ready to share my clinical expertise and knowledge. Most importantly, I’m ready to help anyone who reads these blogs and wants to further commit to their mental health journey with me!

So, a little about me: I’m Steve Spatz, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) practicing in both Virginia and Colorado. I’m also a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional (CSTIP) and a Certified Mental Health and Nutrition Specialist (CMNCS). I hold a bachelor’s degree with a major in Human Services and a minor in Sociology from Elon University (2008) and a master’s degree in Community Counseling from Marymount University in Arlington, VA (2011). I was honored to be named the 2011 Student of the Year in my counseling department in 2011, in recognition of my academic achievements and impact on the graduate program.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in many clinical mental health settings, including: a residential substance abuse center, several community mental health centers, a domestic violence shelter, and a college counseling center. I currently own a private practice that offers mental health counseling services and operates virtually in both Virginia and Colorado. I’m deeply passionate about helping people become their best selves—whether that’s through improving relationships, building confidence, finding better balance in life, managing mental health concerns, or seeking greater meaning and purpose in life.

In this first blog post, I am going to briefly comment on the topics of sex, nutrition and sleep, and self-esteem and how all of them relate to mental health.

Improving Sex Lives: A Path to Deeper Connection

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work is helping individuals and couples improve their sex lives. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, the quality of your sex life plays a significant role in your emotional and mental health. For many people, sex is a source of shame, stress, or frustration, which can lead to a significant emotional toll. Whether it’s low libido, difficulty communicating desires, or just feeling disconnected from a partner, these issues can take a toll on overall mental health. If this sounds familiar, know that you’re not alone, and there are ways to address these concerns. As a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional, I work with individuals and couples to break down barriers around sexuality, address concerns in a safe and non-judgmental space, and ultimately help people rediscover the joy and connection that comes from healthy intimacy.

It’s not just about the physical act of sex—it’s about feeling safe, confident, and loved. Improving your sex life can lead to stronger relationships, better mental health, and a deeper sense of fulfillment in your life.

The Connection Between Nutrition, Sleep, and Mental Health

When we talk about improving mental health, we often focus on therapy and emotional support. But there’s another powerful component that often gets overlooked: physical health. More specifically, nutrition and sleep. The food you eat and the quality of your sleep have a profound impact on your mental state.

As a Certified Mental Health and Nutrition Specialist, I help clients understand how their eating habits can either fuel or hinder their emotional health. A balanced diet rich in nutrients can enhance mood, stabilize energy levels, and reduce anxiety. Meanwhile, sleep plays a vital role in managing stress, regulating emotions, and fostering mental clarity. When you take control of your nutrition and sleep, you're giving your brain and body the tools they need to function at their best, helping you cope better with life's challenges and feel more empowered.

Self-Esteem, Confidence, and Mental Well-Being

Self-esteem, confidence, and mental well-being are at the heart of any transformation. When you feel good about yourself—when you recognize your value and your potential—you’re more likely to take the steps necessary to improve your life. Strong self-esteem leads to healthier relationships, better decision-making, and an overall more fulfilling life. When your confidence is in place, you’re more resilient in facing life’s challenges. This internal work is essential to creating the lasting change we desire in our lives. As I always tell my clients, it’s not about “fixing” yourself; it’s about rediscovering your worth and making changes from a place of self-love and care.

2025: The Year of Your Glow-Up

Now, I want to leave you with a thought: 2025 can be your year for a glow-up. What do I mean by that? A glow-up is about transformation—a shift from where you are now to a healthier, stronger, and more resilient version of yourself. There’s no better time than now to start working on the best version of yourself.
